I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council. I received a stipend to facilitate my purchase for my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
We like to find simple ways to make our everyday lives a little healthier. It’s amazing how the simple blueberry can help us to do just that. From our daily morning routine to increasing our water intake to making that indulgent Saturday morning breakfast a little healthier, blueberries are little blue dynamos that make it easy to pursue healthy habits throughout the year.
When I was in Chile a couple of years ago, I was surprised to find out how many of our blueberries come from South America. While the growing season in the US runs from April to September, the growing season in South America runs the rest of the year. What that means for us is that we have fresh blueberries in our supermarkets year round!
Incorporating blueberries into your daily routine is easier than you might think. One of the top healthy habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle is to eat breakfast every morning. What better way to start than to top a hot bowl of oatmeal with blueberries. I start with plain oatmeal, add a small handful of fresh, tart blueberries, some slices of banana, and a drizzle of honey for a little sweetness. Delicious!
My tip for getting through the day is as simple as simple can be. I take a small handful of frozen blueberries (buy frozen or just buy fresh and freeze a couple of handfuls) and use them as ice in my water. As you drink the water, you get that delicious little nugget of flavor! It’s a fun, and tasty, way to increase your water intake.
Studies show that one of the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle over the long run is to not deprive yourself of indulgences. You can’t indulge every day, but the occasional treat is ok. For me, a big breakfast is something that I crave at least once a month. A tall stack of French toast drizzled with loads of syrup just can’t be beat! To make it a little better for me (and so that I can justify another slice!), I heat up some syrup with blueberries to add a little flavor there and I top the whole thing with a little marscapone and some fresh blueberries. YUM!!
