For some people, coffee is necessary just to start the day. They might say, “don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee.”
For me, though, coffee is all about the conversation. It’s less about rushing through a cup (and burning your mouth and tongue) than it is about slowly sipping, enjoying it, and spending a little time talking with the person across from you.
This can happen in the home, at work, or in any number of other places. Periodically, I’ll even head over to my church and share a cup with the church admin, my friend, Joey. She’s responsible for so much of the day-to-day operations at the church. In some ways, she keeps the place going. We are blessed to have her.
This visit, I brought over a bottle of International Delight Sugar Free & Fat Free Hazelnut creamer and we caught up on what all has been happening in our lives for the past couple of weeks. We talked about the church, the local community, our kids, food. Nothing is really off limits. Hazelnut is her favorite and, since we are both trying to watch our weight a little, the Sugar Free & Fat Free variety gives us plenty of flavor without all of the added calories.
Sometimes, I’ll have the kids with me. They will usually make it a point to “sneak” some candy or trinket from Ms. Joey before they play hide and seek in the rooms up and down the hall. Matthew usually plays all shy for the entire visit but manages to run in for a great big hug before we head out.
For both of us, it’s just a chance to slow down, catch up on things, and, for me, to find out what I can do to make her job a little easier.
