When was the last time you looked at your budget? We have mentioned in the past it is a great idea to look at your budget every few months. Before you say you have the same bills every month, think about if you have thought about who your service providers are. If you haven’t thought about it recently, sites such as MoneySupermarket.com may be a great resource or maybe you just need to go through your budget line by line to see who you are paying.
One of my favorite examples of checking your budget is when I called the trash company that kept mailing us fliers. Their flier said “no fees” and I knew I was paying fees on our trash service. That one call saved us $100 A YEAR just by not paying fees. As an added bonus, they saved us time too as they picked up our recycling too and the other company did not offer a recycling service. It doesn’t get better saving time and money in your budget!
Look through all areas of your budget … cable or satellite service, internet service, phone service, cell service, mortgage, gas and electric utilities … go through it all. Look at your bills. Are you paying for TV channels you never watch? Are you paying for extra minutes or a higher data plan than what you need on your cell bill? Is your gas company charging you a delivery fee that other companies aren’t charging? Those few minutes of looking through your bills followed up by phone calls (always call instead of jumping online!) might save you a bundle in your budget!
So why are you waiting? What part of your budget going to look at first? Leave us a comment and let us know!
