You want to know makes this mommy smile? When Grace walked up to me and says “Mommy, girls can do anything that boys can do.” I had a huge smile and said “Yes, they can!” I then held back my laughter as she stated “Girls can even do it better than boys.” I did kindly tell her that there are some things in life that boys can do better than girls but that she can do whatever she wants to do.
Our girls haven’t found a sport they love but they did play soccer for a season on the same team. Brian was even conned into coaching the team because he had two kids on the team! Here is a picture of them when they played soccer … I love that did just what this picture says “Play Like a Girl!”
Sophie was really great a soccer which does fit in her love of running. I can see her being on the cross country team one day! She loves to run. Grace was happy to just be there. Grace is a social girl and will gladly cheer her sister on but she does know she can give sports a try even if they aren’t her favorite activity. We love that they are willing to try!
The big question … how can sports help young women feel empowered?
Sports build confidence. Sports build courage. Sports build character. Sports build girls into women. It is great to see the smile on your daughter’s face when catch onto whatever it is they are aiming to do athletically. Grace is working on swimming and riding her bike. Sophie loves to see how fast she can run around the house (it is perfect to wear her out too!) Matthew loves to try to keep up with his big sisters that are great role models for him … even in sports! Maybe they can teach him how to be graceful so he can use his size on the football field one day? We hope that no matter what, our girls feel like they can always “Play Like a Girl”
We are excited to partner with Verizon on this post to cheer on our girls! Verizon wants to hear from parents who are as proud of their daughter’s athletic achievements as they would be if she was a boy. They want to provide a place to go to show that pride – a place to harness and share the empowering impact that sport can have on the lives of girls to “Play Like a Girl”. Check out the Verizon FiOS Football Girl Video!
Verizon FiOS gives your family the connection and speed you need to play with the big boys. Share your proudest moment of your daughter’s athletic achievements at www.verizon.com/playlikeagirl. You could be chosen to win a grand prize valued at $5,000!
