Brian was off running the mud yesterday so he wrote lasagna on the meal plan for me. He knows that cooking a frozen lasagna is one of my specialties. I will admit that we don’t buy much store bought frozen lasagna. We tend to make 2-3 lasagnas at time and freeze the other ones for nights like tonight.
Tonight though we had a Lasagna Taste Test Challenge. These were the contendors …
Stouffer’s – Lasagna with Meat & Sauce
Michael Angelo’s – Meat Lasagna
Marie Callender’s – Three Meat and Four Cheese Lasagna
I will note that all cooked at different tempatures and for different times so getting dinner on the table was an interesting challenge. Here are the cooked lasangas … hungry yet? 😉
The kids (OK, the girls) and I had a salad and some fresh made bread with our lasagna taste test dinner. (Little Dude opted for bread for dinner … I don’t blame him. Fresh bread is a nice treat!!) Here my two little tasters …
Here is my plate … can you tell which lasagna is which?
When we started dinner, the girls both declared they wanted the Stouffer’s lasagna. I have to admit it was the prettiest lasagna so I know why they picked it. It took me about four tries to get them to understand they were going to get a piece of all of the lasagnas to try. We started dinner and I had a little notepad next to my plate to write down their comments as we ate. Sophie finished the Michael Angelo’s lasagna first. She said that she loved the curly edges on the pasta and the meat taste. I do admit that the pasta in the Michael Angelo’s was the best pasta! I thought the Marie Callender’s was really soupy and I really don’t know why. I think the green parsley on Marie Callender’s was a turn off for the kids but I thought it added to the taste. The girls did like the Stouffer’s lasagna but I thought the sauce tasted like a can of spaghetti-o’s sauce. Grace wasn’t talking much but did give me rankings. I was surprised the girls had the same rankings. My rankings were a little different than theirs.
The Girl’s Rankings …
3. Marie Callendar’s – Three Meat and Four Cheese Lasagna
2. Stouffer’s Lasagna with Meat & Sauce
1. Michael Angelo’s – Meat Lasagna

What do you think? Would agree with our rankings? I will be honest, I was shocked! I was sure that Stouffer’s would win hands down at our house but it didn’t.
This taste test challenge was issued Michael Angelo’s because they wanted our honest feedback. You can follow Michael Angelo’s on Twitter and like Michael Angelo’s on Facebook. Plus the sweepstakes to Win a Trip to Italy goes live on Saturday, September 15th !

Lasagna is one of my husband’s favorite meals. I’ve always made my own , but tried to short cut a month or so ago with the Stouffer’s, and thought it was awful. I seriously couldn’t get past one bite. Good to know there are better alternatives out there. I will have to try the Michael Angelo’s.

You know I’ve did this for years for my children to raise them. With coupons and working it was hard raising children by myself. But with ready made frozen meals and great coupons it made it alot easier at mealtime.

I heard the Micheal Angelo’s has great meals, but I also thought that Stouffers was going to win. It looked the prettiest in the picture! I am going to try Micheal Angelo’s lasagna!

If you liked the Michael Angelo’s meat lasagne, you GOTTA try their vegetable one!! It has a bright, fresh flavor and is soooo good! This brand is a nice alternative to homemade when you’re in a hurry (or don’t want to cook! lol) I love that each batch is made from scratch and contains NO preservatives!!! Yay! The fat and calorie content is within the acceptable range (for us); which is often hard to find in frozen foods. Glad your family enjoyed Michael Angelo’s — we like it too 🙂

I’m surprised by the comments…. I love the Stouffer’s lasagna and so does my Sunday evening bible study small group… We are all thrilled when someone doesn’t have time to cook and chooses the Stouffer’s route instead! LOL
