LiftMaster 8550 Elite Series

May 24, 2012 By Brian 53 Comments

Product Details …

Take convenience and safety to a whole new level with the LiftMaster® 8550. The reliable, integrated Battery Backup System guarantees access in and out of your garage, even when the power is out. The safety and security features will continue to operate as well, ensuring your family is protected in a power failure. The opener is also equipped with built-in MyQ™ technology, enabling you to close your garage door or turn lights on or off using a smartphone or computer – from anywhere in the world. And because it features soft start and slow stop to reduce noise when it operates, it is perfect for homes with a room above the garage.

  • Equipped with MyQ™ technology that lets you monitor and control your garage door and house lights remotely by using a computer or smartphone (LiftMaster Internet Gateway™ accessory required)
  • Timer-to-Close feature allows the door to automatically close after a pre-programmed number of minutes
  • Auto-force feature constantly monitors garage door system and adjusts forces to temperature fluctuations, floor height, and door track movement
  • The Smart Garage Door Opener® lets you electronically program security codes from the Smart Control Panel® or the powerhead
  • Enclosed gear case provides continous lubrication for longer life and smoother operation
  • A 6-foot power cord makes connecting to a power source easier than ever
  • Whole-garage lighting with adjustable light time delay; compatible with CFL bulbs
  • Energy-efficient operation consumes up to 75% less power in standby mode
  • HOMELINK® compatible with QuickTrain™ technology
  • Meets all UL325 requirements
SAFETY & SECURITY FEATURES:
  • The Protector System® safety sensors project an invisible light beam across the garage door opening and automatically reverses the door if anything interrupts the beam while door is going down
  • Sensing technology will stop the door from closing if contact is made with a person or object
  • Opener lights turn on automatically when The Protector System’s infrared beam is interrupted
  • Security+2.0™ rolling code technology eliminates frequency interference and assures a new code is sent every time the remote control is used
  • Patented PosiLock® system ensures the door remains securely locked when it is closed
  • Alert-2-Close warning system provides audible and visual warnings that the garage door is about to close when using the Timer-to-Close or remote closing features
  • Manual release handle in case of power failure

Our Thoughts …

We love having the new LiftMaster 8550 Elite Series garage door opener. We love it so much that we purchased a second one for our other garage door! We had two mismatched garage door openers prior to this. The opener buttons on the wall rarely worked. There were no remote openers that worked. The sensors for blocking the garage door as it closed were too high off the ground. AND when we opened and closed them, it sounded like a jet was landing in the garage. You could hear the garage doors open and close in the girls bedroom upstairs which is NOT ideal for sure!

We love this new garage door opener so much Beth made a little video to share some of the features it has. Be sure to check it out …

Saying that we are excited to have new garage door openers is an understatement. We love having them!

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer one of our readers the same garage door opener with installation!

Plain and simple, we don’t have one and I’d love to have one, so much better than having to use keys all the time!

We do not have a garage opener, we have to do it the old fashioned way! I would love to win this because my son rides a motorcycle for his primary mode of transportation and it would make it so much easier for him to get in and out of the garage.

Boy do we need this. Our garage door opener had broke a couple of months ago and now to open the garage you have to physically lift it. The garage is too heavy for me, so most of the time, I’ve been leaving my car parked in our driveway. I’d really love to win this. Thanks so much.

My garage door opener was installed in 1993….and has been repaired several times…and now appears to be ready for that final lift! 🙂 I really, really need this! Thank you.

My garage door opener hasnt worked in some 11 years now & it’s a pain to open it by hand but have to do what you have to do or the car would just sit there all day and I can sure use it that’s why I need a new garage door opener.

NEW? Right now the only garage opener we have is our nearly broken backs, strained shoulders, neck and arms! It’s gotten to the point where I almost CAN’T open it on my own – and I never use it unless I have to – which is bad for the car – especially in Winter… It’s a two car garage and the door weighs ton (and the handle /door “knob” is like one inch off the ground…

Now my Honey/Hubby will be having total hip replacement surgery very soon and then neither of us will be able to open it ! I wouldn’t be surprised if opening and closing that dang door is WHY he needs this (his second) hip replacement!)

Not only would I LOVE to win this fabulous giveaway / PRIZE – I would consider it a truly life-changing godsend! THANK YOU and Liftmaster!

We need a new garage door opener because we don’t know how old our current one is or how long much longer it will last. We’ve had it since we’ve moved in and we’re not sure how long the past owners had it prior to our move in.

LIFTMASTER MISLEAD US! Liftmaster advertises the unit as “Homelink Compatible” on their website. However, The Homelink feature may not be compatible as advertised on their website and you may be required to purchase a Repeater at about $25, plus an additional $7 “shipping and handling”. BUYER BEWARE – CHECK YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU GET STUCK!

We’re sorry to hear about your problems. Our Homelink has worked really well. It is set up on our van, plus we can use the mobile app when driving the other vehicles. All of that having been said, any buyer should make sure to do due diligence before buying a big ticket item like a garage door opener. Good advice to do your homework!
