In our seemingly endless stream of emails, we recently found Playdate Planet. As a stay-at-home dad of three kids, playdates are a nice treat for the kids and for me. I have to admit that it is even better if I can pawn two of them off at a time but any break from all three of them gives me a little time to breathe. The biggest issue I have with playdates is actually scheduling them. If we aren’t busy then the other families are busy, so we end up in this voicemail phone tag or Facebook delayed chat thing trying to work out dates that might work. If we try to include a playdate with more than two families, the whole deal just falls apart even faster.
When checking out Playdate Planet, the feature that caught my eye first and foremost was that they Connect with Facebook. As I pointed out to someone recently, I don’t even have email addresses for half of the parents that have kids the same age as my kids. We are friends on Facebook and if we want to reach out to each other, we just use that. I was able to use the Connect with Facebook feature and send out a mass invitation to selected friends to join the site. It really doesn’t get easier than that! Now I am trying to get the family calendar from Beth so we can plan our first playdate with some of Grace’s friends soon. Generally speaking, she keeps track of the calendar with all the family appointments, cookie booths for Girl Scouts, and (coming soon!) soccer games…really everything that we do! Now that I think about it, I think I might be able to make my life as a new soccer coach a little easier by using Playdate Planet to schedule the team events like the end of season celebration!
