Just the other night I was reminded about being thankful for more birthdays as we are in this season of giving thanks. At the Daisy Girl Scout meetings, we were blessed to have a volunteer couple come from the local food pantry. We were talking about being friendly and helpful and how our food drive donations would help those in our community. Miss Betty spoke for a few minutes. I then asked the 5 and 6 year olds if they had any questions. A little girl raised her hand and said “How old are you?” Miss Betty had the biggest smile come on her face as she laughed a little and told my Daisy scout she was 67 years old was fine telling everyone her age. Shouldn’t we all be that happy to share our age? It is an accomplishment for worth sharing for sure!
The American Cancer Society hopes that we all celebrate More Birthday. They have a great feature on their website where you can send singing Happy Birthday cards. You can have Imagination Movers sing to your kids or Maroon 5 sing to your best friend. There is a whole series of videos at their site like this one from Celine Dion:
As we celebrate Thanksgiving next week and share what we thankful for with our friends and family, I think we should add “More Birthdays” to that list. We are each blessed with our own birthday each year but also everyone that surrounds us. So take a moment to say thanks for “More Birthdays” this Thanksgiving and count each birthday as a blessing to share with us as Miss Betty did with the little Daisy Girl Scouts!
