I recently had the chance to get a copy of Read and Share: Stories about Jesus by Gwen Ellis thanks to BookSneeze.com.
Details …
From the bestselling Read and Share® Bible, 13 stories from the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. These time-honored favorites include: The Man Who Ate Locusts, John Baptizes Jesus, Jesus Heals a Sick Boy, Jesus Brings a Girl Back to Life, Jesus Walks on Water, Jesus Loves the Children, Zacchaeus, A Blind Man Sees Again, Jesus Stops a Storm, One Lost Sheep, Jesus’ Best Friends, One Man Says Thank You, and Jesus Goes to Heaven.
My thoughts …
My girls love this book. This book has been added to their bedtime story rotation. My girls like to flip through it and pick a story they want to hear based on the pictures (they are 4.5 and 3). Each little story has a little question at the end of it. At times, I skip the question for them as it too much for them to understand or I will reword it. Even if I don’t tell them the question though, I read it and challenge myself to answer it which is a change for a “children’s book”! The simple stories about Jesus are great lessons for my kids and will continue to serve them well as they grow up!
This book has nice big words in which makes it great not only for new, developing readers but also tired mommies that read it at bedtime! The pictures offer great details and often engage my girls in more discussion than the short stories that accompany them.
I also love that this book is a big board book. My little guy still tries to rip pages of books but my girls are ready for books that have more than one word on each page! Since this a board book, I know it will last through all three of my kids.
