I didn’t get this posted yesterday so I am a tad late here.
The Tax Free Weekend in Virginia started yesterday (Aug 7) and goes through Aug 9th!
Pulled from the Virginia Department of Taxation Website:
What’s Exempt: During this three-day period, purchases of
qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of
qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be
exempt from sales tax. Retailers may also choose to absorb the tax on other
items during the holiday period, but they are responsible for paying the tax on
those items to the Department of Taxation.
So even if you aren’t headed back to school, you can still get office supplies, clothes, and shoes tax free.
Some other stores are trying to get in on this action too. I saw an ad for a furniture store that was doing a tax free promotion this weekend on the tv the other night. (If it isn’t on the state’s approved list, the stores take it out of their own pocket.)
If you aren’t in Virginia, don’t worry. Other states in the southeast do similar holidays. Do a quick search online for your state and “tax free weekend” or “tax free holiday” to see what is going on near you!
So go find those sale and clearance racks to add to the savings!!!
